James Knuckles, PHR, SHRM-CP
James is a human resource management consultant/analyst in general and human resource management specialties. His specialties include Fair Labor Standards Act compliance, USDOL investigation assistance to employers, FMLA, Section 14c commensurate wages, time studies, employee relationship (EE vs contractor issues), ADA, CRA, and unlawful harassment. He is a WIOA Rehab Act Section 511 compliance specialist.
James joined the firm as the business and conference manager in 2005.
James has earned the Professional in Human Resources, PHR, certification from the Human Resource Certification Institute, HRCI. He is also a Certified Professional, CP, awarded by the Society for Human Resource Management.
James assists all types of employers and their management in complying with today's technical wage-hour and EEO compliance issues. Industry types include manufacturing, city, county, local government, retail, non-profits, home health providers, residential care, and work training programs.
James has extensive experience with USDOL investigations, interfacing with investigators to ensure that the requirements of the FLSA and associated regulations, including 29 CFR Part 525, are applied accurately and fairly to the employer. Investigators regularly rely on him to compute the underpayments with the complex FLSA-WIOA computations.
James graduated from Mars Hill University in 2003 with a BS degree in Business Administration, with concentrations in Entrepreneurship, Marketing, and Organizational Ecology.
James is also an Eagle Scout and participated in Boy Scouts of America high adventure programs, including Philmont Scout Ranch, NM, and the BSA Sailing Adventure on Kentucky Lake. He is a member of First Baptist Church in Hickory, where he has served on several committees. James has also served on the Board of Directors of his HOA and as a consultant to the Board. Additionally, he is active with the Catawba Valley SHRM chapter, serving in several leadership positions.
In addition to his consulting duties, he serves as the business manager of MKAI, directing the other consultants' work.
James is a native of Hickory, North Carolina, where he resides with his wife, Heather, a traveling RN, and their cat, Frady.
